An experiential course introducing the theory and practical process of preparing a spagyric tincture. This is a course for those with an interest in plant medicine, gardening, Western esoteric traditions, and anyone curious to explore practical alchemy. The course will run over three weekends. A focus is given each weekend to one of the three stages of the preparation of the spagyric medicine. It will include presentations, demonstrations, and advice for developing your own practice and making a spagyric medicine at home.

Weekend One: Introduction to Plant Alchemy and Distillation of the Soul

Sat 21st June, 9.30 – 17.00, Sun 22nd June, 9.30 – 16.00

• Introduction to plant alchemy and historical perspectives and to the alchemical world view
• An overview of making a spagyric medicine
• Medicinal plants in alchemy
• Theory and practice of distilling essential oils

Weekend Two: In Search of the Spirit – The Science and Art of Fermentation

Sat 26th July, 9.30 – 17.00, Sun 27th July, 9.30 – 16.00

• Introduction to fermentation
• Rectification of the ‘spirit’ of the wine
• Alchemical imagery explored

Weekend Three: Out of the Ashes – Whitening of the Salts and The Alchemical Marriage

Sat 27th September, 9.30 – 17.00, Sun 28th September, 9.30 – 16.00

• Introduction to incineration and calcination
• Crystallisation
• Reunification of the separated parts
• Working with ‘time’ in spagyric production
• Reflection on the internal and external journey
