Anthroposophical Medical Grand Rounds: A Whole Different Model of Research – Developing and Publishing a Case Study

  • Wednesday, May 13, 2026
  • Online

Dear Colleagues, dear friends worldwide,

What form of research really shows the beauty and depth of anthroposophic medicine? It is usually not a randomized, placebo-controlled study, where the individual needs and destiny of a patient are so easily lost.

Learn how successful Case Study research can be and how it can be further developed for the future.

Join special presenters (in order of presentations): Prof. Dr. Erik Baars, Dr. Annemarie Abbing, Dr. med. Paul Werthmann, Moderator: Adam Blanning MD

Contributions:

How to establish a causal relationship between intervention(s) and effect(s) in case studies: an introduction to research designs and causal arguments

Prof. Dr. Erik Baars, MD (not practicing), epidemiologist. University of Applied Sciences Leiden, Louis Bolk Institute, The Netherlands. Coordinator of the Anthroposophic Medicine Research Council of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum.

Beyond the Beautiful Story: transparent case reports in arts therapies using CARE Guidelines and mixed methods

Dr. Annemarie Abbing is an associate lector in arts therapies at the University of Applied Sciences Leiden, The Netherlands. She developed the CARE-AAT Guidelines for arts therapies and has published several case reports, among other studies.

From patient stories to scientific case reports with sound data and substantiated claims – a publication project on oncologic cases

Dr. Paul G. Werthmann, MHS is an anthroposophical physician and researcher with special interest in case reports. He co-authored the Explanations and Elaborations article of the international publication guideline on case reports. He is part of the editorial board of the anthroposophical medical journal „Der Merkurstab“.
