    TRAINING INFO

Training as a Rhythmical Massage Therapist involves not only mastering the techniques of the massage itself, but also developing an understanding of the human being in health and illness, both from a conventional and anthroposophical perspective. You will learn a subtle rhythmical quality of touch which works with levity rather than gravity to strengthen and enliven the life-supporting processes in the human body.

Teaching and learning take place through a combination of lectures and hands-on practice, mixed artistic media exercises, discussion groups, tutorials, regular between-module medical assignments, year-long independent projects, case studies and special seminars. Through these methods, students can develop a thorough, in-depth, and holistic approach to the theory and practice of Rhythmical Massage Therapy.

The first year’s theme is the healthy human being both from a conventional and an anthroposophical point of view. After that, the focus will be on the dynamics of health and illness in its varying manifestations. During the two years, you will learn the basic forms of Rhythmical Massage Therapy and then deepen these massage movement skills qualitatively by learning how to transform the archetypal forms to suit specific illnesses.

    FREE ZOOM TASTER SESSIONS

9 one-week modules over three years

Based in the UK, Open to Doctors Worldwide

    A part-time post-graduate training for physicians

    International Anthroposophic Physician Certification

A new cohort of the English Training in Anthroposophic Medicine will start in Autumn 2025. The first module is 4 to 12 October 2025.

Please note that the following is content is being updated to reflect the 2025 course and may be subject to change.

Is there a place for the whole person in contemporary Medicine?

Can we move beyond reductionist science to embrace the soul and spirit as well as the physical body?

Many patients as well as physicians are in search of an integrative approach to medicine that embraces the whole person, in their mental and spiritual being as well as in bodily aspects. To this end, anthroposophic medicine was founded in 1920 by Dr. Rudolf Steiner and Dr. med. Ita Wegman.

Today this School of Medicine is alive in practices, therapeutic centres and anthroposophic hospitals throughout the world. It is taught in international training courses and is researched* in university departments with associated professorial chairs.

    Module Details & Topics Covered

It explores new ways of understanding a patient’s condition that go beyond current purely physically based medicine, emphasising the patient’s spiritual, psychological and bodily capacities for resilience.

The training offers a deeper understanding of common medical conditions, offering participants experience-based learning processes that lead to an extended understanding of the human being, both in health and illness, and in their relationship to nature.

The treatments introduced include anthroposophic medicines and their pharmaceutical production. The course also provides a foundation for prescribing natural medicines and a range of non-medicinal therapies that have been shown in general practice to radically reduce the prescribing of antibiotics and other groups of conventional medicines, while improving patient satisfaction.

In addition, participants are also introduced to art therapy, eurythmy therapy, body therapies and nursing procedures through direct experience. These non medicial treatments can intensify therapeutic responses to illness. Biographical aspects and insights from psychotherapy and counselling are also considered in developing an understanding of disease processes.

Equally important is the ethical and spiritual development of the physician. Fundamental spiritual exercises and meditative practices that can aid such development, are introduced throughout the training.

    What course participants have said:
I would like to say how much I enjoyed the inspirational step-by-step course. Although I have had an allotment for several years and have always aimed to grow organically, this course has opened my eyes to so much more. My only regret is that I had not discovered the biodynamic way a lot earlier”
One of my greatest joys now is coming back from a Step by Step day and putting into practice some of the many strategies that I am learning. . I am forming a noticeably different relationship with the plot and with the growing process, which I find truly wonderful”

The General Anthroposophical Section is commemorating 150 years since the birth of Ita Wegman with a series of online lectures taking place throughout 2026, offered in English with Spanish translation, for the worldwide anthroposophical movement. This is a complementary offer to the conference “Courage to Heal” taking place at the Goetheanum from 20-22 February.

Over the course of six lectures, Peter Selg will present key milestones in the life of Ita Wegman: her collaborations with others, her contributions to medicine, social development, and inclusion, as well as her ongoing resistance and courage in the face of challenges.

Registration for the lectures is donation-based. A recording is provided to all participants, allowing you to register and view the lecture at a later time if you are unable to attend live.

You can attend in person and online.
Venue: Ruskin Mill Exhibition Room, Old Bristol Road Nailsworth Gloucestershire GL6 0LA
About this evening event: We will explore the way water movement creates forms and how this relates to the formation of organisms in life. We will also explore rhythmic movements in the Flowforms and their relation to the archetypal gestures of water seen in rivers and natural flows. We will also touch on the pitfalls of mechanistic thinking and develop a sense of how water can help us move beyond such binary approaches. Finally, we will discuss the potential for creating individual forms as preparation for those who may wish to join the Flowforming workshops
Cost and Booking:  To register your place, either  in-person or online, please visit: https://flowform_exploration.eventbrite.co.uk/
Suggested in-person donation fee: £10.  For enquiries, please contact: info@ebbandflowltd.co.uk

    Flowforming Course Part One

    14th & 15th March 2026 Venue: Chalford, Stroud, Glos
About this workshop: What are the conditions for rhythmic, resonant flow, and how can we create these artistically in conversation with water?  We will begin by observing flow patterns through tabletop experiments and then demonstrate resonant flow on a flow table using simple constructions made from wooden pieces. From there, we will explore water movements on and within a clay surface on the flow table, shaping this surface individually or collaboratively in small groups. By the end of part 1, participants will understand how to engender rhythmical movement in water practically

    Flowforming Course Part 2

    18th & 19th April 2026 Venue: Chalford, Stroud, Glos
About this workshop: In this follow-on workshop, participants will build upon their experience from part 1 and will have the possibility to create a permanent, functional, weather-proof Flowform.  The Flowform would typically be made from fibre cement
however creation in other mediums may be possible such as carving in stone or wood, beaten from sheet metal, or ceramic made and fired if desired. (Additional costs and arrangements would need to be organised in advance.)

    Dear Colleagues, dear friends worldwide,

Join us for a research update about how the Feverfriend apps have been developed, how they are being used in Germany, Holland and Hungary, and how this outreach is having an impact on medical, social and even political levels (see references below).

Join special presenters David Martin, Henrik Szőke and Eefje Belt to learn about the effect these programs are having in all three countries. There will also be a discussion about possible future fever research and its contribution to reducing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

We want as many people as possible to participate, but must now charge a modest tuition in order to make the Grand Rounds a sustainable, long-term continuing education program.

    Tuition levels:

    • Regular tuition: 15 CHF
    • Discounted: 10 CHF
    • Hardship/student: 5 CHF

Registration can be done directly via Zoom or via our donation site

‘I am for striding forwards.’ (Ita Wegman)

    Dear colleagues, dear friends,

the conference marking Ita Wegman's 150th birthday on 22 February 2026 will honour her extensive life's work in the field of the anthroposophical art of healing and supportive education, her service to countless people in need, her alert historical judgement and achievements in resistance, but also her social commitment to an Anthroposophical Society open to and connected with the world as well as to the Goetheanum as a School of Spiritual Science with a cosmopolitan orientation.

The conference, which is being jointly organised by the General Anthroposophical Section, the Medical Section and the Section for Inclusive Social Development, will focus on the question of the FUTURE. ‘Resignation was a concept alien to Ita Wegman,’ emphasised Madeleine van Deventer. ‘Hopeless – that word did not exist for her.’ Emanuel Zeylmans van Emmichoven spoke of Ita Wegman as an inspirational genius of anthroposophy, and he was convinced that the inner connection to her, the intentions and motives behind her work, would carry the anthroposophical movement and the Goetheanum forward into a healing, Michaelic future in a world under threat.

    Best regards

Peter Selg on behalf of the preparatory group,

Adam Blanning, Marion Debus and Karin Michael

For the second activity we need your direct help. For, in addition to the conference at the Goetheanum we need helpful hands in all parts of the world. We invite you to offer a therapeutic event in your community in honor of Ita Wegman. We hope that you – perhaps with colleagues in your area – will provide a healing experience for others, especially those who might not otherwise have access to these kinds of treatments. And we encourage you to offer it as a free gift to others (without charge).

This could be a workshop on biography, hands-on treatments, whatever you can offer. This is a free choice, depending on your work, your inspiration, and your possibilities!

Please let us know what you are planning. We will be gathering information about the activities that can take place on or around 22 February 2026, at this survey.

We will then share information about the collected activities, hopefully also illustrated with reports, photos, or videos (we will reach out to you again after the event to learn more about what happened) and include it as a special presentation at the 2026 International Annual Conference as well as on our website.

We look forward to hearing about your ideas!

    With warm regards, Adam Blanning

We will conclude our three-year exploration of the three qualities ‘Truth, Beauty and Goodness’ based on Rudolf Steiner’s lecture from 19th January 1923. We had chosen this theme because we feel these qualities are more important than ever on so many levels: in our therapeutic practice and personal journey, but also as a contribution to building a world worth passing on to the next generations.

In 2023 we began with looking into truth in relation to our physical body. In 2024 we worked with beauty in connection with our formative life forces. In spring 2026 we will explore the good and how it relates to our soul forces. This will be very intriguing and open up many creative possibilities since Steiner describes the good as an inner force that is of the greatest importance for the development of the future, as ‘a living seed for a spiritual world in the future’.

When we started our conference cycle it coincided with the 100th anniversary of Steiner’s lecture. It is however important to us, to engage with these qualities from a contemporary perspective. Although, they remain fundamental pillars of our human existence, and yet, how can we conceptualise, experience and nurture them in the light of our complex social demands and mental health of our time?

We therefore want to invite colleagues to share their work in our case study presentations, because what we can learn from each other is richer than any other learning. We also have a keynote speaker, Karin Jarman who will address questions in her lecture “Truth, Beauty and Goodness in the Context of the Challenges to our Humanity Today”. Over the following two days we will then deepen the theme creatively.

Please note that participation in this conference does not require you to have attended the first two parts. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the beautiful grounds of Tobias School of Art and Therapy in Ashdown Forest, Sussex, where the conference will be hosted. You will find our detailed programme for the 2026 conference with time table and information on the activities and facilitators here. The registration form is available to download here. We will support you in finding accommodation.

Through intensive study of plants, Goethe learnt to see the leafing, flowering and fruiting processes as expressing stages of expansion and contraction. Drawing on projective geometry, George Adams and Olive Whicher learnt to see these processes as movements between the point and the periphery. On this course we will follow in Goethe’s, Adams’s and Whicher’s footsteps and, through an experiential and hands-on study of plants and projective geometry, learn to see plants as they did. This course will be of interest to anyone wanting in exploring the beauty of plants.

Singing therapy according to the “School of Uncovering the Voice” is an anthroposophically oriented art therapy. In the searching, exploratory handling of the musical elements, the breath, the listening process as well as consonants and vowels, we ourselves immerse ourselves deeper and deeper in a transformative learning that can accompany us throughout our lives on the way to our "I-sound". Through this active, searching transformation, we connect with our inherent creative resources. The voice is the organ that connects us more and more deeply and consciously with these creative, creative forces within us.

"Learning in this way that as an adult you transform yourself, become a different person, yes, develop into something that you were not before, which is therefore more than bringing existing predispositions to fruition" .... (Coenraad van Houten1) ... that is adult education at eye level, which serves us as an ideal.

This course delves into the transformative potential of both the theory and the practice of the Western alchemical tradition. At times deemed to be a precursor to modern chemistry, at others as an imagistic language of the collective unconscious, we will explore the contemporary relevance of alchemical ways of knowing and working. Drawing on alchemical insights from Paracelsus, Robert Allen Bartlett and Dennis Klocek, we will explore how processes undertaken in the transformation of materials contributes to self-transformation. Through making alchemical essence from plants, we will engage with the many different uses of fire/warmth, touching on how the alchemical worldview has contributed to contemporary developments in traditional herbal medicine, agriculture and education.

This course offers an experiential introduction to Goethe’s colour science. We will explore colour phenomena from Goethe’s Theory of Colour using custom-build projectors and state-of-the-art optical equipment. Drawing on research from the Goethean scientific tradition inaugurated by Michael Wilson and André Bjerke, this exploration will be extended to include phenomena and experiments from the subsequent development Goethe’s conception of colour and the optical conception within which it is embedded. This course will be of interest to artists, science educators and anyone interested in exploring a scientific paradigm that overcomes the separation of object and subject typical of contemporary scientific thought.

Annual Conference of the Medical Section in GB

From the moment we are embodied on earth, we are humans in the becoming, only ever striving towards true humanity. First we are met by the parental and pedagogical principles around us which, if rightly informed, bring healing towards our development. When we are adults, each illness, each life challenge asks of us further steps in this development: a renewed self-education of body, soul, and spirit. When we commit to this path consciously, taking on our own development, we are saying yes to a path of initiation. When we as nurses, doctors, and therapists encounter our patients in their own illnesses and crises, the therapeutic and healing intervention can be a catalyst for their own path towards initiation. We as healers have Raphael-Mercury as our guide in this transformation of illness into forces of development. The healing art then becomes the art of initiation.

Joined by our guest lecturer, Prof. David Martin, we want to explore the realities behind child development both in health and pathology. We also want to look at how this continues into adulthood with professional trainings and a commitment to an inner path. Beyond this, we will look at what it means that we as healers engage in the biographical processes of our patients and are asked to mediate the initiatory Raphaelic forces to bring illness into movement and a new step for the patient. There will be small group work on these themes as well as artistic activities and practical updates. Please note change in venue. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are not able to have out conference at Emerson College, so will return to Hereford Steiner Academy again, who always host us with great catering and wonderful spaces for our work.

Anyone with a professional relationship to the medical and therapeutic world is invited, and we also invite our colleagues in the Pedagogical Section and the Section for Inclusive Social Development as we feel the theme is relevant to their work.

Once we have crossed the threshold into the spiritual world, we must orient ourselves to this new world, to this new form of existence. We must navigate many reversals. Where we were once passive recipients, we must now become active builders. Where we were once active out of our own self-will, we must now become receptive to the deeds and speech of the hierarchies. We stand on a vista encompassing both past and future, both subject and object, and must find our stance in the middle. From the middle space, the present-moment feeling ourselves within spirit, we begin to discover and explore our home in spirit. We meet our higher self and become both perceptive and active in this new world. We learn to stand on a spiritual foundation stone and perceive a world filled with the activity of many beings including the Gods who create the very foundation of our existence, our bodily nature. With true meditative forces, we create a temple which enables us to commune with spirit.

Our First Class conference for psychotherapists will work with Class Lessons 10 and 11. These lessons do not speak directly of the guardian, but rather our “I” begins to orient itself in the spiritual world. Class Lesson 10 brings a 12 fold mantram which helps us orient to the experience of earth, stars, deeds of the spirits, and speech of the Gods, utilizing body-free thinking, feeling, and willing. In Class Lesson 11, we discover from a spiritual perspective with the help of our angel how our threefold physical form created by the Gods allows us to build a temple for our spirit, enabling us to be, to live, and to will.

How does this new perspective, grounded in real spiritual experience and knowledge, impact us and our work with our fellow human beings? How can our newfound orientation in spirit contribute to healing for our clients? How can our knowledge of the temple of the body, created for us by the hierarchies, inform our healing work?

The conference is participatory, with small group work. The conference will include Class Lessons, conversations, and eurythmy.

Interested First Class members from healing professions are welcome to attend, especially psychotherapists and all professionals who work in a psychotherapeutic way with clients. Please bring your School of Spiritual Science blue card for admittance. The conference will be offered in the English language, with additional reading of the mantras in German.

To receive further emails about this conference, and to register, please email the initiative group with your contact information at FCPsych@GoogleGroups.com.

Your email is your registration; there is no online form. Please arrive

    International Annual Conference

Standing on the Abyss – Trauma, Development and Resilience

    Dear colleagues, dear friends,

We are in a turbulent time with a feeling of many quickly-approaching thresholds. Change comes rapidly and in unexpected ways. Some shifts are a clear call for more wakefulness, part of the time of the consciousness soul. Other changes bring painful chaos, separation, trauma and loss – with the border between these two types of experiences not always clear.

At our annual medical section conference, we will strive to create a protected space to explore both the wounds and scars that come with trauma, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of mostly unexpected developments in spiritual growth and new resilience.

How can we interact with the world and our fellow human beings in a helpful and healing way during this time? What are we being called to do?

Save the Date Annual Conference 2026

    A selection of planned lectures:

Trauma and Evil from an Anthroposophic Perspective | Nurit Rosengarten, Hanan Goldman

The ethical view of the traumatized sheathes of the I | Oswald Hasselmann

Post-traumatic Growth and Resilience | Zheni Nasi

Best greetings, on behalf of the preparation group

Wellbeing treatments - particularly massage and the recognition of the life of touch - are very much part of Weleda’s DNA. Dr Ita Wegman, Weleda's co-founder, studied massage before she became a medical doctor. She developed a very individual rhythmical massage technique, echoing nature’s rhythms and patterns.

Inspired by this approach, we have developed an accredited qualification with Crossfields Institute, so those wanting to learn Weleda’s unique ethos and specialist facial techniques can expand their existing beauty qualifications or develop a completely new skill as a Holistic Esthetician.

The training includes all the necessary skincare foundation including skin analysis and skin conditions, anatomy and physiology in relation to skin and face, and Weleda’s treatment consultation and facial sequence. The course also provides a deeper understanding of Weleda’s natural and organic cosmetics and working with the products adds an invaluable additional layer of training for the esthetician.

The course is made up of four modules or units - two of these units will require in-person attendance at Weleda Head Office:

Unit 1 - 1-day Online Workshop plus a six-hour online foundation module completed from home, in your own time, prior to attending Unit 2.

Unit 2 - Three days of onsite practical training at Weleda Head Office, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Unit 3 - Home study period: case-study work, two online sessions, and completing treatments.

Unit 4 - Three further days of onsite practical training and practical assessment at Weleda Head Office, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

    Autumn 2026

Unit 1: Live Online Workshop 25th September

    Unit 2: Onsite Training 5th October – 7th October
